Questions, answered

What is BrainTok?

BrainTok is an iPhone app that puts a short quiz in front of the apps you choose, like Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. Before one opens, you answer 3 quick questions (you can set anywhere from 1 to 20) from the topics you like or from quizzes you made with AI. Right or wrong, you see a short explanation and your apps open, and they stay open until your next quiz. It doesn’t take your apps away: it turns some of the time you spend in them into learning.

How does BrainTok lock my apps?

With Apple’s Screen Time. You pick the apps or categories to lock and how often you want a quiz, from every 15 minutes to every 2 hours. When a quiz is due, opening one of those apps shows BrainTok’s quiz screen first. You can take a break from Home or set a weekly schedule.

What happens if I get an answer wrong?

Your apps still open. Every answer, right or wrong, comes with a short explanation, so a wrong answer is just one more thing you learned. Right answers earn more XP.

Can BrainTok see which apps I use?

No. Apple’s Screen Time gives BrainTok an opaque token for each app you pick, so we can’t tell which apps they are or how you use them. Your answers and stats stay on your iPhone.

Does answering quizzes really help you learn?

Yes. Pulling an answer from memory makes it stick better than reading it again, an effect psychologists call retrieval practice, or the testing effect (Roediger and Karpicke, 2006). Short quizzes spread through your day are exactly that kind of practice.

How much does BrainTok cost?

$7.99 a month or $69.99 a year (about $5.83 a month), with a 3-day free trial for new subscribers. Plans include AI credits to make your own quizzes, 10 a month or 140 upfront with Yearly. Apple handles payment, and you can cancel anytime. During the closed beta, testers use it free through TestFlight.

Does it work on iPad or Android?

No. BrainTok is for iPhone, with iOS 17 or later.

Who makes BrainTok?

BrainTok is made by Rodrigo Puente. It’s not related to other apps with a similar name. Questions or ideas are always welcome on the Support page.
